AB 617 Implementation

What does it fund?

AB 617 provides a community-focused action framework to improve air quality in communities most impacted by air pollution. AB 617 Implementation Funds are provided to local air districts to enable actions such as: establishing steering committees; developing and implementing emissions reduction programs, including staffing, outreach, strategies, and enforcement; deploying community air monitoring; reporting emissions and performing analyses; developing new regulations; and implementing new requirements regarding best available retrofit control technologies.

Who is eligible for funds?

CARB staff allocates the funding to air districts based upon need. Communities can work with their local air district to develop community emission reduction plans and become an AB 617 community.

How does this program provide benefits to priority populations?

Funds are used to support air district activities in AB 617 communities, which aid efforts to reduce air pollution for priority populations.

*Note that all of the AB 617 Implementation funds sourced from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund have been awarded to South Coast AQMD, while other air districts receive AB 617 Implementation funds from other sources.
