Little Egbert Multibenefit Project and Habitat Planning

Department of Water Resources (DWR)

What does it fund?

Funds will be used for planning and implementation of the Little Egbert Multibenefit Habitat Restoration Project and to support other habitat planning and feasibility studies for projects that can provide nature-based solutions for climate resilience, habitat enhancement, and flood control in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta region.

Who is eligible for funds?

For most of this funding, DWR, in cooperation with Department of General Services, will administer a lease-to-purchase agreement with a private corporation to implement the Little Egbert Multibenefit Habitat Restoration Project.

For a small portion of the funds, non-profit organizations, local agencies, including water districts, reclamation districts and other local governments were eligible to submit proposals for consideration in response to a Request for Proposals for habitat planning and feasibility studies focused on floodplain restoration.

How does this program provide benefits to priority populations?

Projects benefit priority populations through reducing flood risk for communities adjacent to the location of the Little Egbert Project, and by providing new public access and recreational opportunities for the region and improving air quality because of less dust from agricultural activities, reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions and subsequent ozone formation.

How do I access funds?

Funds are already dedicated to the planning and implementation of the Little Egbert Multibenefit Habitat Restoration Project. Up to $5 million was available through a Request for Proposal (RFP) solicitation for floodplain habitat planning and/or feasibility studies; however, the solicitation is now closed.

Funding Timeline

For the Little Egbert Multibenefit Project, all funds will be committed to the project by June 2026.

For the Habitat Planning RFP, the RFP solicitation closed December 2025. Proposal review and project selection will occur in early 2026, with funding awarded by June 2026.
