Renewable Energy and Alternative Fuels
California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA)
What does it fund?
The Alternative and Renewable Fuels Program was an in‑house research and regulatory initiative within CDFA focused on advancing the quality, integrity, and adoption of emerging low‑carbon and renewable transportation fuels. The program oversaw fuel quality, dispenser accuracy, and advertising for alternative fuels sold at retail, while also developing fuel specifications and test methods for renewable fuels derived from agricultural waste. Supported by GGRF funding for staffing and equipment, the program worked to establish standards that would expand the use of renewable and zero‑emission biofuels, reduce reliance on petroleum‑based fuels, and help lower greenhouse gas emissions across California’s transportation sector.
This program is no longer active. No funds are available.
