What does it fund?

The program funds two local assistance contracts to expand and secure access to land in California for producing food, fiber, medicine, and cultural resources. One contract is led by the Center for Ethical Land Transition, offering technical assistance for California Native American Tribes and Tribal land stewards. The second contract, led by California FarmLink, offers technical assistance for historically underserved farmers and ranchers, as defined in H.R., the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018.

The partners will use their established networks to identify recipients of technical assistance and work directly with farmers, ranchers, and Tribal land stewards on a range of agricultural land access needs. Technical assistance can include:

• Land acquisition preparation

• Access agreements

• Advancing complex land acquisition and land return projects.

These contracts support SGC’s ongoing efforts to provide impactful technical assistance to diverse communities, including priority populations.

Contract timeline

This is a one-time funding allocation. Contracts are expected to begin by August 30, 2026, and continue through June 30, 2028.
